If you are reading this blog, it is probably because you want to learn how to lose 3 stone in 8 weeks, however there may be a slightly different conclusion then what you are expecting.
So lets break it down and make it simple...I know that counting calories doesn't often work for us to lose weight in the long term and just makes is miserable and increases the chances of binge eating but, if you want to lose 3 stone in 8 weeks you need a hell of a calorie deficit.
In fact, lets look at Karen.
Karen wants to drop from 14 stone to 11 stone sharpish (she is looking for that 'summer body' all the diet coaches shout about). After spending longer than I care to admit using a calculator I realised Karen needs to lose 5.25lbs per week to lose 3 stone over the 8 weeks. 1lb of body fat equates to 3,500 calories roughly, meaning each week Karen needs to be in a calorie deficit of 18,375. Divide this by 7 and Karens' daily deficit needs to 2625 in order to reach this goal that we are told is achievable - if we listen to the right diet coach that is!
Now I don't strictly count calories, and I don't include calorie counting with my client work either but if you just have a think about the amount of calories you eat in a day, most likely it will often be less the deficit needed to lose this weight making this calorie deficit impossible for the majority of people!
Stop believing all the posts from diet coaches and companies claiming that their clients can lose weight super fast...it just isn't true. The diet and weight loss industry is the world largest industry with an estimated net worth of £2 billion a year. The reason the industry is so lucrative?...because it doesn't work. When people fail to lose weight using some pills they bought or following a crazy fad diet or just eating supplements and powders, they go back and they start again buying the same crap because we are constantly told that using these products we can lose 3 stone in 8 weeks! If these things really worked, we would all buy them once and wouldn't need to buy them again.
This lie that we are so often sold is what enhances diet mentality and leads to yo-yo dieting. So I beg you all, if you want to lose weight, stop believing in diet culture and start listening to your own body. Intuitive eating is quite simply listening to and understanding your own hunger cues. If you can listen to your body and eat when you are hungry you can regain control over what you eat and lose weight in a natural and healthy weight.
